SUPPORT NETWORKS

Staff Network

The MAV provides professional development days each year for all Montessori Staff. The Staff Network co-ordinator assists staff from a different host school each year to organise networking and professional development days for staff. Each staff member has the opportunity to attend as many of these professional development days as they wish with the MAV, including teachers, assistants and administrators. Certifi cates of attendance are provided. These sessions are informative, often involving guest speakers and provide professional development for staff as well as an invaluable opportunity to share information and experiences with other Montessori staff.

These Professional Development Days are free to staff from member schools.

New Schools Network

The New Schools Network was set up to provide information and support to groups or individuals wishing to establish a new Montessori Centre or School. They receive publications, information packs and individual assistance with their projects.

This is one way your membership helps Montessori to grow !

Teacher Register

  • The MAV Teacher Register Co-ordinator provides a contact point for centres wishing to employ new staff and teachers seeking employment in Victoria. We also provide information to people wishing to train as Montessori Teachers. We have information packs on Teacher training organisations and qualifi cation requirements for working in Victoria. This is an important service offering advice, information and contact opportunities.
  • The MAV sends out Montessori Education information packs to Universities offering Early Childhood and Primary Teaching Degrees in Victoria to ensure awareness of Montessori Education is raised and that quality information is given to students in these areas.
  • Advertising staff positions in the Update sheets, MORE News and on the MAV website is free for members. The MAV can also forward your advertisement to the MAA and MANZ if appropriate and give advice on advertising in the general press.

ADVERTISING

  • The MAV has a significant annual advertising budget. It uses this to advertise member schools in relevant publications such as Melbourne’s Child. Member school locations and telephone numbers are listed as well as the MAV website, email and phone number to call for information packs on Montessori education.
  • Articles promoting Montessori and informing the parents of Victoria of this important option for their families are also submitted.
  • The MAV facilitates a statewide Joint OPEN DAY each year. This allows the MAV to advertise this day on a wider scale and provide support material to member schools.
  • The MAV has a 0500 telephone line for the public to leave messages. Information packs are then sent to all inquiries. Most calls are from parents looking for information about Montessori Education and the location of centres. Teacher training inquiries are sent Teacher Training information packs and are referred to the Teacher Register.

RESOURCES

  • The MAV has a Library with a large number of books, videos and display materials that are available for loan to members for Open Days/ Information Nights or as general reference. This service will be placed on the website during 2006 for improved access. We can also assist in arranging speakers for Information nights.
  • The MAV has an Electrical Safety Testing Unit for hire to all members to test and tag electrical equipment.
  • We have a TV-Video unit that is used for Expo’s and is available for hire to member centres.

REPRESENTATION

  • As the peak body representing Montessori Centres and Schools in Victoria the MAV provides State level representation and communication with bodies such as the Department of Human Services, the Australian Early Childhood Association and Kindergarten Parents Victoria. The MAV attends the Children’s Services Forum meetings each term. Representatives also attend AISV and VIT meetings.
  • As a member of the Montessori Association of Australia the MAV is represented at the National level and provides information and advocacy at this level.
